How big a ball mill is needed for 50tph copper ore?

Ball mill is a common equipment in the grinding stage of copper ore beneficiation plant. For a beneficiation plant that processes 50 tons of copper ore per hour, how big a ball mill should be selected? This involves a series of complex calculations and considerations. This article will give you a brief introduction.

1. Select according to the properties of the ore

Choosing a ball mill is not a simple "distribution on demand", but a comprehensive consideration of the properties, hardness, humidity and other factors of the ore.

For example, copper ore has moderate hardness, but if it contains more clay or high moisture, a larger ball mill is needed to ensure the grinding effect. This is because clay and moisture will make the ore stick together and not easy to be broken up, so more grinding time and energy are required. In addition, we have to consider the fineness requirements of the final product. The higher the fineness, the larger the volume of the ball mill required. In addition, we cannot ignore the filling rate of the ball mill, which is one of the key factors affecting the grinding efficiency. Too high a filling rate will lead to low grinding efficiency, and too low a filling rate will cause waste of resources.

2. Calculation of ball mill model

Generally speaking, we will refer to the technical parameter table of the ball mill, which contains data such as the volume, ball loading, and processing capacity of various types of ball mills. Taking the ball mill of Xinhai Mining as an example, their product line is very rich, ranging from small ball mills to large ball mills of industrial scale. Assuming that we are dealing with medium-hard copper ore and the goal is to process 50 tons per hour, we can first estimate the required grinding volume. Here is a little trick, which is to estimate according to the empirical formula: Grinding volume = processing capacity × grinding time + additional coefficient. Of course, this coefficient varies according to the characteristics of different ores.

For example, ball mills of Ф2400×3000, Ф2400×4500, Ф2700×4000, Ф2700×4500 and other models may reach or exceed the processing capacity of 50 tons per hour. The specific model of ball mill to be selected also needs to be determined according to your specific production needs, ore hardness, feed particle size, discharge particle size and other factors.

3. Choose a slightly larger model

Next, we need to consider the filling rate of the ball mill. Generally speaking, the filling rate between 35% and 45% is a reasonable range. In this way, we can get an approximate value of the ball mill volume. But this is not enough. We also need to consider that the actual working volume of the ball mill may be smaller than the nominal volume, because the internal partition board, liner, etc. will occupy a certain space. Therefore, when choosing a ball mill, we try to choose a model that is slightly larger than the calculated result to ensure that there is enough grinding space.

Here, I would like to remind everyone to choose a reputable and high-quality ball mill brand, such as Yingkuang Group.
