Product FAQ

Which material of crusher hammer is more wear-resistant?

The hammer head of a crusher can be said to be the lifeblood of the crusher, and the quality of the hammer head will directly determine the crushing efficiency and effect of the crusher. Therefore, the selection of material for the hammer head of the crusher is crucial.

Introduction to Common Hammer Materials for Crushers

At present, there are many types of materials used for casting crusher hammers, and the commonly used ones include high manganese steel series, alloy steel series, and high chromium cast iron series.

1. High manganese steel hammer head

High manganese steel material is a widely used type of crusher hammer, because the hammer of high manganese steel material is mainly subjected to impact crushing during the operation process. The greater the impact force on the high manganese steel hammer during this process, the faster it can work and harden, thereby maximizing its potential wear resistance.

2. High chromium cast iron hammer head

Compared to other materials, high chromium cast iron hammerheads have better wear resistance, but poorer impact toughness. Therefore, the impact force should not be too large. If the impact force is too large, the hammer head will undergo brittle fracture during high-speed operation. Through multiple experiments, it has been proven that high chromium cast iron hammerheads are more suitable for crushing materials such as quartz and limestone, and can achieve good crushing effects.

3. Alloy steel hammer head

Compared to high chromium cast iron hammers, alloy steel hammers have better wear resistance but poorer toughness, and are prone to brittle fracture during operation. Generally speaking, they are more suitable for making small hammers.

Which material of hammer head is better?

A good material for a hammer head should have both high wear resistance and high toughness, but no such material has been found yet. Therefore, to determine which material is better for a hammer head at present, it still depends on the actual processing situation.

For large crushers with a feed particle size of over 400mm, it is recommended to use high toughness high manganese steel material for the hammer head, and a large hammer head with a single weight of over 50 kilograms is recommended for the hammer head weight;

For small and medium-sized crushers with feed particle size less than 200mm, it is recommended to use small and medium-sized hammers with a single weight of less than 50 kilograms. The impact force of small hammers is relatively small, and ordinary high manganese steel materials cannot be quickly processed and hardened, and wear resistance cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, it is recommended to choose alloy high manganese steel with higher carbon content as its material;

For small crushers with feed particle size below 50mm, it is recommended to use a hammer with a single weight of less than 15kg. The hammer with this weight is less susceptible to impact and is not suitable for high manganese steel materials. It is recommended to choose medium carbon medium alloy steel or a new type of composite material, which is to use high chromium cast iron for the hammer head and low alloy steel for the hammer handle. Both materials should play their respective advantages;

For crushers with feed particle size below 100mm, it is recommended to use high toughness high chromium cast iron material, which can extend the service life by 3-5 times compared to high manganese steel.
